" A most impressive and historically significant period family house occupying an enviable position within this popular Wiltshire village situated between Pewsey and Marlborough. The house and its history within the village make a fascinating snapshot of village life but more importantly tell us a great deal about the dwelling itself and how homes have evolved over the centuries. The house today is an impressive and substantial period family house wonderfully situated in substantial gardens and grounds (0.9 acres overall) surrounded by barns and outbuildings. There is a relaxed air about the house which enjoys large, albeit comfortable rooms with unusually good ceiling height and numerous leaded casement windows. There are a variety of natural floor coverings, glorious open fireplaces and rich period detailing. There is a large vaulted cellar, believed to be at least 200 years old, a generous farmhouse kitchen with Aga opening onto the rear terrace and both formal and informal living rooms. The first floor offers four generous bedrooms with a large family bathroom and shower. The principal bedroom is a wonderful room with vaulted ceilings and an en suite shower room. The house has oil fired central heating.

The village of Oare sits just west of Martinsell Hill and is set in some of the most attractive and striking scenery in the Vale of Pewsey. The village itself offers a predominance of attractive period houses and has a good village primary school and pub. The larger village of Pewsey lies three miles south with its mainline railway station (London Paddington ? 70 mins), excellent range of shops, supermarket, chemist and bank. The area offers excellent schooling in the state and independent sectors with popular options including Oare itself, St Francis prep in Pewsey, Pewsey Vale, Marlborough College and the excellent Dauntseys. The historic market towns of Marlborough and Hungerford are within a twenty minute drive, with Salisbury and Bath within an hour. For the motorist there is easy access to the M4 & M3 (A303) motorways offering easy links to London, Bath and the West country.

Directions: From Pewsey head north towards Marlborough on the A345 for about 3 miles. Upon entering the village proceed along the High Street passing the church and entrance to Oare House. Continue for a few hundred yards turning right into Pound lane. It is quite a small lane with the turning well hidden. Proceed down the lane for a short distance, turning left whereupon the entrance to The Old Oxyard can then be found on the left. Continue up where parking can be found. "
