The Area
Kilsby is a small, picturesque village set on the NorthamptonshireWarwickshire border. There are great road and rail links nearby with the M1, A5 and DIFT close by. There is also a good supply of local buses to various towns and villages nearby. The village retains two pubs, The George and the Red Lion as well as a village hall which is the heart of the community and home to many events and clubs including a youth club and Tai Chi classes. There are lots of community groups including girl guides, a waking group, garden and produce association, history society, WI and a pre-school. There is also a community free shopping bus service. Just 1.5 miles away is Barby village which offers a shop and post office. There is a pre-school held at the village hall and a C of E Primary School. Lawrence Sheriff and Rugby High grammar schools are nearby in Rugby as well as the world renowned public school of the same name. There are further opportunities for education in Northamptonshire.
Rugby
Rugby‘s economy is mainly industrial and distribution. It is an engineering centre and has a long history of producing gas and steam turbines at the GEC and at the AEI. The AEI was earlier British Thomson-Houston or BTH. They used to dominate employment in the town. They are now amalgamated to form Alstom. Engineering in Rugby is still the most important sector. There are three new retail parks, â--Elliotâ--s Fieldâ-- which is leisure and fashion centric, â--Junction Oneâ-- which has a 9 screen cinema and several shops and fast food outlets. â--Technology Driveâ-- is mainly home stores and DIY based. Elliotâ--s Field has launched a second phase with more big names to compliment the existing retailers. There are many excellent schools In Rugby including grammar school (Lawrence Sherrif), Girls School, Ashlawn School (OFSTED Top Rated) and of course the world famous Rugby School where the modern game of Rugby was born.
Continued
Rugby is credited as the town that gave the inspiration for the modern Olympic Games, the invention of the laser, hologram and jet engine and enjoys a growing tourism economy as the council and other partners increase the promotion and marketing of the town which is the fastest growing in the West Midlands.
