SITUATION & DESCRIPTION
The rambling, hillside garden of High Barn is full of intrigue and set in just under 3 acres. As you meander through the tree lined paths accompanied by the butterflies, your sense of adventure draws you to explore the varying sections of the garden. The mixed woodland of oak, ash sycamore and pine is awash with bluebells and wild flowers in spring time and continuously home to wildlife including rabbits, badgers and foxes. As you leave the woodland you arrive at a more formal lawn gently brushed by the hanging branches of a picturesque weeping willow. Sat under the verandah at the front of the house with the wisteria offering shade you can watch the birds popping down for their daily feeds, regular visitors to the garden include goldcrests, nuthatches, woodpeckers, blackcaps, bullfinches, jays and many robins, tits, blackbirds, chaffinches etc.. The tropical garden is hidden behind a sea of bamboo but opens into the most delightful lawn surrounded by a variety of tropical plants growing within a quarry face giving a sense of history.
While sitting in the top corner of the field watching the cattle grazing in the fields over the valley, you would be forgiven for thinking you are on the southern slopes of Provence all that is missing is the vines. Time passes quickly as you bask in the sun on a hot summer's day admiring the flight of a buzzard overhead. The current owners have created two vegetable plots, the first of which is close to the house for ease of maintenance and includes a cage for soft fruits. The larger vegetable plot is located in the field to make the most of the southern aspect. Both areas have been kept organic with the use of natural fertilisers as nature intended.
Converted some 40 years ago and architecturally designed for the current owners, High Barn is a unique property with character and charm.
