The village has an active community with a church, primary school, village shop and post office and the very popular pub. It is within walking distance of the head of the Avon estuary which has an interesting variety of wildlife and birds and where it is possible to moor a small boat on the tidal water subject to permission. The market town of Kingsbridge lies some five miles away with its greater variety of shops and facilities including a leisure centre, cinema and library.
