" A stunning Grade II listed 17th century residence of immense charm and character, set amid delightful grounds of about 0.33 acres with the benefit of a detached converted barn with residential / commercial use. Old Forge itself possesses many historical connections and was originally located in the grounds of Starborough Castle which originally dated from around 1340 although demolished by Oliver Cromwell around 1650 and later re-built. The principle residence is Grade II listed and comprises a beautifully converted timber framed dwelling originally constructed around 1600 with later additions around 1700. The property contains many features typical of the period including a wealth of exposed beams and timbers, leaded light windows, inglenook fireplaces and original bread oven. The Detached Oak Barn (which is understood to be about 300 years old) was dismantled from the Hever Castle Estate and re-erected on its present site about 30 years ago. There is an impressive open plan reception area at ground level, which includes a small kitchen area, off which is a shower room and study / bedroom. A spiral staircase leads to the first floor which has been partly converted to form a bedroom with storage facilities. The two properties have shared drainage and water facilities, but are heated separately. Planning permission has been granted for a single storey rear extension from the kitchen. TA/2010/1518 "
