Property Features:

Highly original Grade 2 Listed, stone built, late Georgian town house, set in the centre of the historic market town of Machynlleth, ancient capital of Wales. The town has a weekly food and goods market, a wide range of independent shops, and plays host to renowned, annual Festivals of International music and Comedy.

Machynlleth is set in the midst of unspoilt countryside, nine miles from the coast at Aberdyfi, and eighteen miles from the University town of Aberystwyth.
The house was built around 1795.It sits at one end of a terrace of houses regarded as one of the most important examples of Georgian architecture in mid-Wales.
Opposite, are the premises in which Laura Ashley established her first shop in the 1960s.

36, Heol Maengwyn was the home of Hugh Williams, manager of the Dylife lead mines. His daughter married the M.P. Richard Cobden. His son, a solicitor, defended many
Of the local Chartists, and may have been 'Rebecca' of what became known as the Rebecca Riots.
The house continued as a meeting place for local politicians well into the 20th century.

No.36 has been well preserved and cared for over the years, remaining essentially as built. Part of the servants' bell system survives, as do original fireplaces, doors, and plaster work. The Georgian sash windows and stonework to the facade has been the subject of extensive restoration.

The original oak staircase connects all four floors. Leading off the hall, are doors to the dining room and kitchen, beneath which there is extensive cellarage.
On the first floor can be found a bedroom and elegant sitting room. Off a half landing towards the second floor is a bathroom and separate toilet.
Three further bedrooms lead off the second floor landing.

Stairs continue up to a large attic with plumbing in place and great potential for creating a self contained living space.
A combination of central heating and wood burners provide heat to the house.
Attached to the rear of the house are stone outbuildings: the original game larder and servants' wash house set in a mature garden beyond which are two garages.

An early inspection is highly recommended of this lovely family home.
