" STUNNING NEW BUILD HOME A spectacular bespoke home has just come on to the market with premium estate agent Chewton Rose in the highly desirable village of Weston. Four-bedroom Ridgewood, which has a guide price of ?2,500,000, was the dream project of Alan and Elizabeth Mills 12 years ago. Built in reclaimed, 100-year-old bricks and hand-made roof tiles, every room also features beams to give the house its traditional, country home feel. You look at the house from the outside and think it has been there for years, explained Alan. The spacious house was designed to sit in the middle of its grounds, which are surrounded by a six ft tall stone wall, with an electronic gated entrance. Stepping inside, visitors are greeted by the impressive galleried hallway and staircase, which is filled with light that pours in from above. The conservatory was built as an integral part of the house and forms part of the open-plan kitchen. There is also a separate dining room and large family room. We went to a company in Hitchin that specialises in bespoke kitchens and had all the wooden units fitted; we have also installed appliances, which are all top German brands. The couple love having their family to stay and have created a family room for their three children and eight grandchildren. All the family have stayed with us at one time or another and the family room is a great place for the kids, said Alan. We usually have everyone here at Christmas, which is a lot of fun too. Liz decorates the inglenook fireplace and puts up a Christmas tree and it really does look lovely. We tend to use the dining room for special occasions when we open a nice bottle of wine. The gardens have also been landscaped and now feature a number of mature trees, including a blue spruce. A terrace hugs the house and there are seating areas situated around the property to make the most of the sun at any time of the day. Weston is set on a hill, with Hitchin just five miles away, and Letchworth and Stevenage both about three miles away. The lovely thing about Weston is that it has a proper village centre with a crossroads, local shops, the Red Lion pub and even a village green and pond, said Alan. On a Sunday morning I like nothing better than to walk to the village shop to get the newspapers and enjoy a pint in the pub at lunchtime. We are both going to be very sad to sell this house, which has really been our dream home, but we have decided that now it is time for us to downsize. Ground Floor Accommodation Be greeted by space and light when you step over the threshold into the entrance hall of Ridgewood. The wonderful solid oak dog leg style staircase gives an indication of the standard of finish that awaits you. At the front of the house is a great size family room to the east, the current owners spend many an evening in here unwinding after a long day. To the west side is a drawing room which has an amazing inglenook style open fireplace, this can be found alight during the cold winter nights. There are also triple aspect windows which the light floods through. Behind this is a formal dining room which is the ideal place to have your friends over for supper and a glass of wine or two. Double doors to the rear can be flung open onto the rear garden, if so desired. To the rear of the property is a fabulous kitchen/dining room with bespoke high specification wall and base units and worktops. There is a long breakfast bar which provides a defining line between this space and that of the large Victorian style conservatory. This is a fantastic part of the home with its high ceiling an panoramic views out into the garden. Off the kitchen is a very large utility room. First Floor Accommodation The galleried landing has a window to the front and you can look over the banisters into the entrance hall below. The vast master bedroom is located to the front of the home and has lots of built in wardrobe space. There is a door which takes you into the spacious en suite which has a great size bathtub and walk in shower. Also to the front of the house on the other side of the landing is the second bathroom, again with corner bathtub and separate walk in space. The other three double bedrooms are all located at the back of the home with great views out over the gardens. Outside The property is entered via a double cast iron electric gate into a very large block paved driveway. This goes off and provides access to the detached double garage. At the front of the plot is a secluded garden, including a wonderful circular patio where the owners sometimes spend their leisure time relaxing. From here you can proceed through a brick arch into a further private patio area. To the rear is a good size and well tended garden with an abundance of mature trees, shrubs and flowerbeds. The current owners have also had a chalet style summerhouse built to the rear which could be used for various purposes. Setting The Scene Unwind in the comfort of your very own slice of paradise. The property is completely surrounded by a brick wall which gives both privacy and security. The surrounding gardens would be a wonderful space to use in the summer months. What's Nearby () Just down the lane from the property is the Village Hall and a bit further still is a surviving windmill for all you history buffs out there.
