Building commenced in 1883 for the Hermon family, incorporating the use of cut granite plinths and quoins, large mullion and transom windows, and high fully moulded ceilings. The property was built from local stone with brick linings to create a cavity for protection against damp and is reputedly amongst the first in the country to benefit from this method of building.
