Where it is The village of Islip is within easy travelling distance
of Oxford and Bicester. Oxford is only 6.8 miles away, and Bicester
is 7.1 miles. If you love history, then you will love Islip. There
are deep roots with the monarchy, as it is the birthplace of Edward
the Confessor. He was born here just over 1000 years ago. Coming
back to the present, there is certainly a great historical feel to
the village with its mix of old and new buildings. The church plays
an active role in the community, and is a beautiful 12th century
building. There is something everyone to do in Islip including: The
WI, Youth Club, Thursday Club, football, cricket, ballet, aerobics,
bowls, and yoga. Dr Souths School is well regarded and there is
also a parent and toddler group. There is a train station in the
village so you can easily get to Oxford and London Paddington, or
to Bicester and London Marylebone, or why not stay in Bicester and
enjoy the delights of the designer shopping village. There are also
regular bus services to Oxford so you can escape the hassle of
parking the car, and be greener too. The great thing about Islip is
that you have the countryside around you, and yet every amenity on
your doorstep. There is a local surgery, travelling library and
also a great community village shop, run by people in the village,
which can provide almost anything you want. If you fancy an evening
drink after work then there are 2 country pubs in the village, The
Red Lion and The Swan Inn, so you don?t fancy cooking you can grab
a bite to eat there. Kirtlington with its prestigious polo club is
close by so if why not pop along for a chukka or try the The Oxford
Arms or The Dashwood Arms for some comforting food and local ales.
If sport is your thing, or you fancy some gentle exercise, then why
not join Kirtlington golf club just down the road, with an 18-hole
course, you can certainly enjoy walking off those pub suppers! All
in all, Islip offers the opportunity to live in the Oxfordshire
countryside, with everything the City has to offer on your
doorstep. Why we love it Love outdoor living all year round; then
bring the outside inside, with the thoughtful and creative design
at Northcote. With views over surrounding countryside, lose
yourself in the moment; just stop and stare at the rural beauty
surrounding you. What it?s got This is a house that feels like home
should, perfectly sized rooms, lots of character and oodles of
space. The drawing room is elegant and comfortable with a
wood-burner and doors opening to the garden and leading straight
onto the verandah; a great room to enjoy all year round. The dining
room leads straight from the drawing room so entertaining in this
house could only be a pleasure. Will you let the children in
everyday, or perhaps, as there is plenty of space for them to have
their own room. If you are looking for a house with the ?wow?
factor then look no further; the kitchen is vast with a vaulted
ceiling, this room will surely be witness to many more happy
parties and family lunches as it has become accustomed to, while
the current owners have been in residence. The kitchen with
hand-finished units and gorgeous original beams overlooks the
garden and courtyard so you can keep an eye on the children
playing. Next to the kitchen there is the playroom or second
sitting room ? you choose. There is a good utility and a cloakroom.
In the West Wing you will find 2 en-suite bedrooms and a large
vaulted room that is currently used as an office but has an
end-suite look which could be converted into a shower room. This
area of the barn could easily be made into a self contained annexed
(subject to any planning consent needed) - this really is a truly
versatile house. On the first floor the bedrooms are charming and
calming, there are three and ideal for children. There is also a
family bathroom. The garden is perfect for a family; walk out of
any room downstairs into a courtyard which is beautifully planted,
this then leads you into the lawned area where the children can run
wild and enjoy the space, or camp and play in the hidden dell by
the willow trees. There is a stile at the end of the garden so you
can go for bracing country walks straight from the house. The
garage has a store room to one side and plenty of parking. So now
you know what it?s got, let me tell you how it got there. Bought
from the church, the current owners painstakingly and lovingly
converted the barn 13 years ago and to an incredibly high standard.
When they embarked on the project they took great care in getting
as much professional advice as they could find to make sure that
the barn was as ecologically sound as can be and it really tells;
this house was cutting edge before its time and is still streets
ahead of current building standards and regulations. The
construction is incredible with insulation quantities unlikely to
be seen elsewhere for some time. How to get there From our office
in Summertown, travel down Banbury Road to the Woodstock East
roundabout. Take the second exit and continue along the road. At
the Sainsburys roundabout take the 4th exit and continue along the
road following signs for Islip. Once you have entered the village,
at the crossroads turn right and follow the road down to a T
junction. At the T junction turn left and immediately left into
Lower Street. Northcote is the first house on the right.
