The area around the town is one of outstanding natural beauty. Monmouth sits on three rivers; the most well know being the Monnow and the Wye. Nearby is Symonds Yat and the Royal Forest of Dean and a short drive through stunning countryside leads to Hay-on-Wye famous for its book shops and Literary Festival.

Being situated near rivers and forests means that the area offers great advantages for sporting and outdoor activities such as canoeing, walking, riding and bird watching. Symonds Yat is famous for its Peregrine Falcons. Monmouth is also home to The Rolls of Monmouth Golf Club.
