" An imposing detached Edwardian five double bedroom property set on a generous secluded plot with a beautifully mature west facing rear garden. The Story Sitting in their wonderful garden room watching the sun go down, Richard and Grace clearly remember the first time they saw their beautiful home. You drive in through a little tunnel of trees and bushes and emerge into an opening and out of nowhere is this stunning Edwardian house, with its imposing original fa?ade and beautiful frontage, said Richard. I just remember we both said: 'Wow.' It was like discovering a secret. Silverwood was built in 1906 and has original features throughout, which the couple lovingly restored. There are wonderful high ceilings, picture rails, archways and decorative cornicing and these enormous bay windows, which are just beautiful, said Grace. I bought books on Edwardian architecture as it was so important to maintain its character. We even had a new piece of stained-glass made for the drawing room to match the original window in the front door. ELEGANCE AND CHARM The elegant drawing room is warm and inviting. It is full of character and has a wonderful old fireplace with a wood-burning stove. When the fire is lit, it permeates warmth through the whole house. We are very self sufficient; we gather all our logs from the trees in the garden, said Richard. I also love the beautiful floor-to-ceiling bay window, which opens out onto the terrace. The sun pours in and you can enjoy views of the garden, whatever the season. The shaker-style kitchen is designed very much with the cook in mind: I love cooking and the kitchen is like my workshop, when I do all my prep work I can look out over the garden and watch the birds, said Grace. My other passion is gardening - and growing my own produce, although I am a beginner. I have fruit bushes and a vegetable patch, so I love that connection when I look out from the kitchen over the garden. The kitchen opens into a very sociable breakfast room. A lot of our friends live away, so they all come for dinner and stay the night and in the mornings, we all gather again in the kitchen to have breakfast and chat. DRINKS AT SUNSET Beyond the breakfast room is a sunny garden room. It has such lovely views. There are French windows leading out to a terrace, which is the perfect spot to watch the sunset - we call it our gin terrace, laughed Richard. It is also where we tend to sit and relax and watch television, it is our family snug. Perfect for entertaining is the property's grand dining room. This is my favourite room in the house, said Grace. It has an original brick fireplace and we have kept the furniture as in keeping with the Edwardian period as possible. We love entertaining and it is a great room for special occasions when we can all gather round the table. FABULOUS SPACE On the first floor there are four generous double bedrooms leading from a bright and airy gallery landing. Our master suite is a huge room and has got the most beautiful big bay window with lovely views over Ranmore Common. We also have a fantastic en suite bathroom, with a really big bath where I love to enjoy a really good soak with a glass of wine. A curved staircase leads up to a fabulous guest suite on the second floor. It is a really pretty room and feels very tranquil. It has fantastic views through the sweet little windows set in the eves and has a lovely en suite bathroom. It is the perfect guest room, said Grace. STUNNING GARDENS The house is set in beautiful mature gardens. We play croquet on the lawn in summer and have had 25 seated on the terrace for dinner. There is also plenty of space for the kids can play, he said. Grace added: We also have our secret garden, hidden through some trees, which is a haven for wildlife and has its own wildflower area. It is magical. The couple have loved every moment of life at Silverwood. Every room of the house looks out on to greenery, like a panorama of trees, said Richard. I call our house our little oasis. When you are there, you feel like the world is somewhere else. Accommodation Ground Floor Accommodation: This attractive detached Edwardian residence, built in 1906, is approached through a tunnel of mature trees that opens onto a wide gravel driveway that offers ample parking. As you walk through the attractive half glazed double doors into the entrance porch, you immediately notice the original details that abound in this beautiful home. On arriving in the entrance hall, the first room to the right is an elegant formal dining room with original cornicing, picture rails, feature fireplace and a beautiful large bay window overlooking the front garden. There is ample space for a large table and chairs for entertaining as well as space for freestanding furniture. Attractive arched detailing in the hall leads to a welcoming and cosy family drawing room. A pretty room with feature fireplace and French doors that open onto the rear terrace and space for comfortable sofas and chairs. Passing under a further arch, with a cloakroom to the right hand side, you arrive in the generous kitchen/breakfast room fitted with modern white painted country style cabinets with space for range cooker, American fridge freezer and door to the back garden. A delightful dining area with front aspect window completes this room. To the side of the kitchen/breakfast room is the family/garden room, a cosy place for TV dinners with French doors leading onto the rear terrace and pretty trompe l'oeil on the walls. At the back of the garden room is a study overlooking the front garden, nicely tucked away from the main house for peace and quiet. First Floor Accommodation: Ascending the grand staircase, you reach the galleried landing, flooded with light from the feature front aspect windows with wonderful views of mature trees and giving access to four double bedrooms, family bathroom and staircase to the top floor. The master suite is a generous room with wonderful views over the rear garden from a large bay window and an en-suite bathroom offering bath, WC and wash hand basin. There are three further double bedrooms on this floor, one of which is currently used as an office and a generous family bathroom offering a corner bath with overhead shower, bidet, WC and wash hand basin. Second floor Accommodation: A further flight of stairs lead up to the attic room, an attractive and adaptable space with two eaves windows, one front aspect, the other rear, which could easily be adapted to a gym or games room if desired. An en-suite bathroom offering bath, WC and wash hand basin. Setting The Scene This handsome house is found peeping through the trees as you enter the generous driveway. With ample parking in front of the tandem garage and situated in a large plot, the west facing rear garden is beautifully surrounded by mature trees, making for an air of seclusion. Along the back of the house is a sunny terrace, entered from the drawing room, kitchen and the garden room and giving wonderful garden views.
