Prestwick is a town located in South Ayrshire on the south west coast of Scotland, approximately 30 miles (48 km) to the south-west of Glasgow. It adjoins the larger town of Ayr. the centre of which is approximately 2 miles (3 km) south.

The town is renowned for being the home of Open Golf. The world`s first Open golf Championship was played at the Prestwick Old Course in 1860 and the first twelve Open Championships were played there until 1872 (the Championship was not played in 1871). The town also hosts two other golf courses, St. Nicholas and St. Cuthberts. St. Nicholas is a traditional links course on the southern half of the town

Prestwick is an ideal choice for holidaymaker`s and day visitors. Situated in the heart of Robert Burns country Prestwick has many places of historical interest itself. Prestwick Old Course where the first Open Golf Championship was played, Bruce`s Well and the Salt Pans.


Prestwick has a 1 mile long esplanade running parallel to the Firth of Clyde. It is a refreshing walk and has two children`s playgrounds. At the north end Kid`zplay, an indoor activity centre, can be found next to the large play-area that was formerly a large open air swimming pool.


Prestwick has its own range of well stocked and well renowned restaurants and boutiques and several unique shops.

Prestwick has four schools, three primary and one secondary, one of which is a denominational school, serving Prestwick and north of Prestwick.

Ayr is Ayrshire`s foremost town and as such offers a good range of high street shops, supermarkets, recreational and professional facilities. In addition there are a number of well-renowned restaurants and excellent private schooling at Wellington School for children of age 3 to 18.

The Ayrshire coast is famous worldwide for golf with championship courses at Royal Troon, Turnberry (the venue for the Scottish open in 2009), all of which are within easy reach.

The newly upgraded A77/M77 trunk road network is close by and This provides easy access for the commuter with links accessing in a Southerly direction towards Girvan and the Ayrshire coast and in a Northerly direction toward Kilmarnock and Glasgow.

Both Ayr and Prestwick have mainline railway stations, while Prestwick International Airport has regular and enhanced flight service flights to London, Dublin and the rest of Europe.
