" We know we re always saying that Leyton and Leytonstone are constantly changing, but it s true. Take the recent news about the Heathcote Arms for instance. It s a great old pub, and we re thrilled it s been saved by the people behind the brilliant Leyton Star. It will join the other amazing pubs in the area, like the Leyton Technical (brilliant for Sunday lunch), the Northcote (always something going on there, from East End piano singalongs to the Sunday drag acts) and the aforementioned Star (check out the End of Democracy burger we won t tell you who inspired it, but it s so good - hint hint). And it s not just the gastro pubs that continue to evolve the rest of the food scene is changing apace as well. Yardarm s new bistro Kettle & Ryan is only weeks away from opening, whilst Marmelo have recently completed their second site on Murchison Road. Oh, and we forgot to mention the pizzas at the Northcote amazing! Add to all of this the amazing people who work on Francis Road, like Aimee at Phlox Books, Helen at Edie Rose, Dan and Eliza at Yardarm, and even a certain bunch of very friendly estate agents (no, honestly, we are), and what you have is a fantastic place to live, to work, and to socialise, and all within an easy commute of Central London via tube. Now if all that doesn t make you want to live in E10/E11, then we honestly don t know what will

Living here... The sunshine seems to have forgotten to come this year, with the recent downpours making it feel more like Autumn than high Summer. As a result, we needed cheering up, and this flat (together with the O?s winning their first home game of the season - hurrah!) has put the smile back on our face. Seriously, who wouldn't want to live in a lovely Abrahams maisonette like this one? To the front of the property are the two bedrooms, one with bay window to the front, and the other directly behind offering views of the rear garden. Continue down the hall and the next room you come to is the lounge/diner, which is open plan to the kitchen, making it the perfect place to entertain, or to hunker down when the weather turns colder (which may be sooner than usual the way this year is going!) The lounge diner also has French doors leading out to the private rear garden. The flat is completed by the modern bathroom at the rear. All in all, an absolutely cracking flat, and one that will just make you smile at the thought of owning it? In This Area... Leytonstone, or Leyton-St-One as my friend calls it when she?s trying to sound posh, is the birth place and former home of Alfred Hitchcock. It gets its name, or the stone bit at least, from the Highstone mile marker which stands on Hollybush Hill. Bordering Walthamstow, Wanstead, Epping Forest, Leyton and Stratford, Leytonstone has a lot going on. Check out All You Read Is Love on Leytonstone High Road. This independent caf?, bar and bookshop is great spot to sit and while away the hours, they host loads of special events, and you can buy real books (none of those ebooks here). If you are a fan of Vietnamese food, wander down the High Road to Little Saigon, the salt and pepper squid is all kinds of amazing. The Northcote Arms, which is technically in Leyton, is a great pub with a real community feel. And If you want amazing views of the city, go on a tower tour at St John the Baptist Church. The tours don?t run all year around, so you?d need to keep an eye on their website for dates, but it?s well worth doing. The views are simply spectacular, especially at Sunset with the lights of the city set against the darkening sky.
