AMENITIES:    The town is of archaeological interest with many fine buildings dating from the 16th and 17th century and has two castles on the opposite side of Sherborne Lake, the remains of one dating from Norman times and the second built for Sir Walter Raleigh. Sherborne centre is dominated by the Abbey Church of St Mary and the neighbouring Sherborne school, founded in 1550 by royal charter of Edward the VI. The main shopping thoroughfare of Cheap Street has a good variety of shops, two supermarkets a museum, community hall and public library. The town benefits from commuter links at Sherborne train station to London Waterloo to Exeter.
