Thorngate is ideally placed at the bottom of The Bank but a stones throw from the River Tees and the Demesnes. An area formally dominated by woollen mills and weavers cottages; this delightful location now comprises an interesting variety of impressive houses, cottages luxury apartments and town houses. Barnard Castle is an historic market town supporting a range of shopping, educational and recreational facilities. Often referred to as the gateway to Teesdale, where there are many renowned beauty spots close at hand, beyond which can be found the attractions of North Yorkshire, The Lake District, Weardale, Northumberland and the North East Coast. For the commuter the A66, A67 and A1(M) provides links with the major commercial centres of the North East.
