Cecil Road is a highly regarded residential area within level walking distance of the centre of this historic market town. Barnard Castle provides a range of shopping, recreational and educational facilities and is often referred to as the Gateway to Teesdale with many renowned beauty spots close at hand. Further afield can be found the delights of North Yorkshire, the Lake District, Weardale and Northumberland.

For the commuter the A66, A67 and A1 (M) provide links with the major commercial centres of the North East. Darlington Mainline Railway Station and Durham Tees Valley International Airport offer further communications with the rest of the country.
