The owner's grandfather, acclaimed Teesdale artist Stanley Thompson b.1876, lived in the property for most of his adult life. His portraits exhibited in the Royal Academy and internationally were painted in the larger downstairs room that even in present day is known as The Studio. Situated in an elevated position the cottage enjoys splendid views of the Tees valley and beyond.
