DESCRIPTION
Originally two Georgian cottages and first owned by local farmers Mary Ann Luff then George Robinson, Bacons is a truly stunning example of a Grade II cottage believed to date back to 1790 which has been lovingly refurbished by the current owner. Bacons boasts many character features which were carefully preserved when in 1880 it was converted into one dwelling and occupied by Albert Stauden the shoe maker. His apprentice Albert Bacon, after whom the house is named, took over the business in the 1930s and lived with his wife in the property until the late 1960s. It was Albert Bacon who created what was the shop front in the 1930s, which displayed the fancy goods sold by the shop. During the later years of his life the shop was let out to local resident Betty Bale as an antique shop until after her death when the property was sold to a local builder. The property was then converted internally to create a fabulous sitting/dining room and create modern living whilst still retaining the original charm the cottage offers. Bacons was awarded Grade II listed status in the 1980s and has only had three owners in the last 40 years. The most recent owners have carried out a huge amount of work to the property, which really must be viewed to be appreciated. "
