Description

"Dryden House is one half of the former vicarage and sits in its own substantial plot of landscaped gardens adjacent to St. Mary the Virgin Church, Ambrosden. The vicarage was built in 1638 for the Rev John Stubbings and the interior remains unspoiled with many period features telling the story behind the history of this wonderful property.

The property boasts two impressive reception rooms with high ceilings, dual aspect windows and period fireplaces. The bright and elegant sitting room features a coffered ceiling and gives access to the pretty conservatory which in turn leads out into the gardens. The striking dining room showcases oak panelling reportedly salvaged from Merton Manor following the Civil War. The kitchen has a lovely view over the church and is fitted with a gas fired AGA, ample units and storage, and has a large dining area. There is also a useful utility boot room. The galleried landing is an attractive feature, off which there is the principal bedroom overlooking the gardens, and two corridors. These lead to an ensuite guest bedroom, two additional bedrooms, and a family bathroom.

At the rear of the property is a peaceful and private west facing garden, spanning nearly a third of an acre, bordered on one side by a high brick wall beyond which lies the picturesque village church. To the front, there is a detached single garage and a wide gravel drive leading to Church Walk and, through a pretty lychgate, into the churchyard.

Ambrosden is a vibrant village located close to the historic City of Oxford, three miles southeast of Bicester and only two miles from the eponymous Bicester Village. The village has a primary school, two shops, a post office, and a public house. Nearby Bicester provides an excellent train service to both London 45 minutes and Birmingham, plus a wide array of amenities, including high street shops, a cinema complex and retail parks. Oxford, with its many attractions and excellent schools, is just 13 miles and Junction 9 of the M40 is approximately five miles away, providing easy access north to Birmingham and south to London.
