Description

"Whatley House is believed to date back to 1810, the Georgian era, and is Listed Grade II, being of significant architectural importance and historic interest. Of classical design of the period, the house is constructed of red brick Flemish bond with deep twelve pane sash windows, all under a tiled roof with tall brick chimneys. The house has an imposing pillared entrance with a closed gravelled courtyard and flight of steps leading up to the formal pedimented front door. The accommodation is conveniently arranged over three floors and retains a wealth of period detail including deep, elaborate cornices, marble fireplaces and all principal rooms enjoy good outlooks. The entrance hall has doors leading off to the drawing room, which is well proportioned, is particularly light with double aspect and a gas live flame canopy fire with a grey marble mantelpiece. The dining room is of similar size, also has marble fireplace and open grate and tall window overlooking the Square. The sitting room library has a wall of bookcases and further glazed fronted cupboards to either side of the formal fireplace. A short flight of stairs leads down to the garden level with a well fitted kitchen with AGA and door leading out to the east facing terrace. Further reception space is found on the lower ground floor, with flagstone floor hallway with rear entrance and shower room with wc and two good sized rooms, one providing music room sitting room with large, perhaps original kitchen fireplace sealed off with a wine store and utility store. The other reception room provides a good party room or could be furnished as a home office. The bedrooms are found on the first floor, the principal bedroom having two windows overlooking the Square and an en suite shower room with walk in shower, two wash hand basins, set into marble top with cupboards below and wc. There is a pretty guest bedroom with en suite shower, two further bedrooms and a family bathroom.
