Description

"An outstanding and especially spacious Edwardian house with a contemporary ancillary cottage set in incredibly private beautiful, verdant grounds of just under 1 acre.

Description

Walber House dates from 1906 and was designed by the acclaimed architect, George Val Myer, whose other works include Broadcasting House. The house retains many superb features and is included in Pevsner s The Buildings of England series.

In 2009, our clients extended the house to create a sophisticated & stylish annexe, known as The Workshop, with striking larch clad elevations and a sedum roof, which complements the original building, taking inspiration from the timber clad gable end, a distinctive Walberswick feature.

The accommodation of the principal part of the house though now requiring some modernisation, offering a unique opportunity to fashion a fabulous family home flows exceptionally well, comprising wonderfully proportioned, light filled rooms, with high ceilings throughout.

The front door opens into a useful porch, which leads through to the generous reception hall. This double aspect room in turn leads to the triple aspect sitting room, dining room, kitchen breakfast room and cloakroom; French windows open out to the terrace and stairs lead up to the bedroom accommodation on the first and second floors.

The Workshop
The Workshop is an impressive ancillary wing consisting of an open plan kitchen dining sitting room with poured concrete worksurfaces and bi folding doors out to the garden; two bathrooms, the principal bedroom and further ground floor study snug, which could be used as an additional bedroom.

Grounds
Walber House sits within beautiful grounds ofjust under 1 acre. Immediately to the rear of the house is a generous terrace, ideal for al fresco dining, a pond and various outbuildings including a cold store and sauna. The principally lawned garden has an array of mature and specimen trees, a wildlife pond and orchard. There is ample parking and garaging for numerous cars.

Location

Walberswick has been a favourite spot for families and artists over many generations, with painters including Philip Wilson Steer and Charles Rennie Macintosh famously depicting its beach and environs. Today, the village is a thriving community and home to an increasing number of young families.
