Description

"

This enchanting four bedroom property, brimming with character and steeped in history, is situated in the heart of Llanefydd village, just nine miles from Abergele and with its own community centre and popular inn which serves food. The quaint stone cottage is spread over two floors and radiates so many special features including exposed beams, wattle and daub traditional screening, latch timber doors, Inglenook fireplaces and a pretty cottage garden with summer house. Pengwern is one of three ancient houses in the village centre and is difficult to date but a local historian has dated the oak timbers to the early 1600s, before the ship building industry made oak a scarcity across Wales. It may well be that the walls of the original building which are 2 feet thick are even older. The oldest part of the building follows the layout of a Welsh longhouse with 3 joining rooms, each successively lower than the other. The original occupants would have housed their cattle in the lowest of the three rooms, and people would have inhabited the other two. In around the early 1800s, the building was added to. The end of the house was a shop, where bacon was cured there are still meat hooks on one ceiling. The small corner structure with the door facing the cornerstone at the junction was at one time used as a cobbler s shop. A further extension was made at the rear of the building sometime around the 1980s the kitchen was extended and another bedroom added. Such an exceptional property needs to be viewed to appreciate its total uniqueness.
