Soberton is one of several villages that include Droxford, Meonstoke, Exton and West Meon along the course of the River Meon where there is trout fishing subject to the acquisition of a permit. There is an infant school in Meonstoke, a primary school in Droxford and secondary schools in Winchester and Swanmore. The village has a very active community with a number of clubs and societies that welcome new residents and a very popular pub,The White Lion. Soberton Towers, a private school before World War II, was commandeered by the Royal Navy as a billet for WRENS being trained as telegraphers before being deployed to Y stations around the country intercepting German communications and instrumental in cracking the Enigma Code at Bletchley Park.
