The cathedral city of Chichester lies some 16 miles to the east. Its historic pedestrianised centre provides extensive shopping facilities and other attractions including Pallant House Gallery, home to one of the most significant modern art collections on the south coast, and the internationally known Festival Theatre. The rich countryside of the South Downs National Park is the setting for many picturesque villages and country pubs, providing plenty of opportunities for walking, riding and mountain biking. Glorious Goodwood is already famous for its racecourse but also provides a country club, hotel and plays host to the annual Festival of Speed and the Revival of its historic motor circuit. The city of Portsmouth, some 14 miles to the west, has many attractions including an excellent range of shopping facilities, the historic Portsmouth Naval Dockyards, home to HMS Warrior and HMS Victory, and the excellent shopping and leisure facilities of Gun Wharf Quay. There are regular ferries to the Isle of Wight and cross channel ferry services reaching France in around 5 hours.
