Description

"

Situated on an idyllic no through lane in the tiny rural hamlet of Star, which lies just outside of the popular villages of Shipham and Winscombe is Miners Cottage , a captivating period cottage packed with original charm and character. Meticulously maintained by its current owners, this deceptively spacious property offers an adaptable footprint which could include a self contained annexe if desired with as many as four bedrooms and three separate reception rooms.

Miners Cottage is picture perfect from the outside, with its white washed stone elevations and handsome clay tiled roof. The property occupies a superb, gently elevated position and is ideal for buyers who are seeking a rural lifestyle, with miles of stunning footpaths and bridleways to explore and yet require the convenience of easy access to Bristol, and local amenities, with a number of larger villages just a stones throw away.

On entering the cottage you are greeted with a delightful hallway featuring the original tessellated tiled floor, access to a ground floor bathroom, door to the rear garden, stairs rising to the first floor and doors kitchen and dining room. The dining room is to the right of the hallway and has a picture window looking out of the front of the house, a delightful glazed dresser and a beautiful feature fireplace with an ornate wooden mantle, cast iron grate and tiled inserts. To the side of the room a door leads through to the main sitting room, an absolutely stunning room with a fantastic dual aspect and a wonderful stone inglenook fireplace with a cast iron woodburning stove. Feature beams provide even more old world charm and neutral decor and carpets add a homely luxurious finish. There is also a handy rear door leading out to a sunken courtyard and stone outbuilding.

To the opposite side of the entrance hallway is the charming kitchen which is accessed via a pitch pine stable door. The kitchen is well fitted with a range of traditional shaker style units, complemented by a granite effect counter top and oak flooring. A stunning feature of the kitchen is the British racing green coloured oil AGA, a staple essential for any self respecting rural cottage. For convenience there is an additional Electric Neff oven, as well as an integrated dishwasher, one and a half bowl sink, and a neat tiled splashback. A handy freestanding butchers block provides even more useful preparation space and a passageway to the rear of the kitchen hosts a number of further kitchen units, a breakfast bar, and a door that leads into the utility room.

The utility room is an excellent size and has plenty of room for an upright American style fridge freezer as well as housing the airing cupboard. There is a Velux to the ceiling and hanging space for coats and cloaks and muddy boots. From here a door links through to a ground floor office with a window to the front and a stable door leading out of the property, as well as enclosed stairs that rise to a second office study or potential fourth bedroom. These three rooms could easily be combined to create a self contained annexe benefitting from its own separate access from the main house.

Completing the ground floor accommodation is one of the properties two bathrooms, this one a spacious shower room with half tongue and grooved panelled walls, quality white sanitaryware and enclosed shower cubicle.

Moving onto the first floor, the stylish and well appointed accommodation continues and you will find three fantastic double bedrooms which all enjoy stunning views out over the surrounding countryside along with an alluring family bathroom with a divine clawfoot bath, traditional vintage style w.c, bidet and wash hand basin, as well as a gorgeous stained glass feature wall.

Worthy of special mention is the superb principal bedroom which is impressive in its size and features a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams, delightful porthole window set into the stone gable ended wall and plenty room for an array of bedroom furniture.

Outside, there is off street parking for two three cars along with access to a single garage. To the rear of the house is a small courtyard thats leads to a little stone outbuilding and stone steps that lead up to the garden. Occupying an elevated position above the house the garden is split into two separate levels both with wide stretching lawns, interspersed with a number of fruit trees. A neat well established hedge line encloses much of the garden, with post and rail fencing to both the front and rear. To one side of the garden is a large chicken enclosure, perfect for those wanting to enjoy the good life with some of their own home grown produce and eggs. There is plenty of room to add a greenhouse, summer house, or home office and once again the incredible panoramic views that can be enjoyed from many rooms in the house are even more impressive from the garden.

This absolutely delightful period home is as quintessentially the idyllic rural retreat as you could ever wish to find. A home that is packed with character and charm with a homeliness that can be hard to find.
