Originally built in 1860 within the grounds of the this property
estate, this charming four-bedroom, period property is ideally
situated in the heart of Brading; a pretty, little town steeped in
history. The property's period features can be seen throughout,
beginning externally at the front with the wide, bay windows,
attractive archway porch and beautiful, stained-glass panels in the
front door. Even the modern addition of UVPC double glazing sash
windows have been done sympathetically to the original build era.
Enter into the spacious, central hallway, with its gorgeous,
turned wood staircase. To the front of the house is the sitting
room, with the beautiful bay windows and an attractive, original
fireplace. This room adjoins the snug and makes great use of wide,
sliding doors, opening up both rooms into one, large living area
that benefits from triple aspect windows. The kitchen is an
excellent size and again, has retained some original features, such
as the open fireplace and chimney stack. Leading directly off the
kitchen is the dining room, with another pretty, original
fireplace. Further rooms on the ground floor include a very handy
utility room and cloakroom.
To the first floor are four, evenly proportioned double
bedrooms, all of which have retained the original chimney stacks,
making it easy to restore to their original glory. The main bedroom
benefits from the lovely, bay windows and beautiful, rural and sea
views, as does the second bedroom to the front. The first floor
also benefits from a family bathroom plus a separate shower room.
On the lower ground floor are two excellent bonus rooms, which
could make a home cinema and games room, or even a guest bedroom
suite.
Outside to the rear is a good sized, enclosed garden, with a
delightful mix of mature plants and trees, and a paved decking area
as well. Behind the fence is parking for several vehicles, accessed
via a private road to the side of the property.
Please refer to the footnote regarding the services and
appliances.
What the Owner says:
Brading is believed to be one of the oldest towns on the island,
with the Romans initially setting up residence here in the third
century and later King Alfred founding the town in the seventh
century. The Roman Villa can still be viewed today and there is
evidence of the town's rich history throughout. However, this
property is in an ideal location to enjoy all the contemporary
benefits of this delightful, historic town as well. It has two
great pubs - The Bugle and The Wheatsheaf - within easy walking
distance, as well a couple of excellent restaurants, including the
highly rated Hungry Bear.
There is a local convenience store just a couple of minutes'
walk away for all the essentials, and a Tesco Extra just a few
miles down the road as well. The town is well served by public
transport, with the numbers two and three buses running regularly
to Newport and Ryde via the coastal town of the Sandown. Brading is
also on the Island line train service, which travels to and from
Ryde pierhead – ideal for catching the high-speed catamaran to
Portsmouth.
