Description

" Holding one of most unique and surreal views across North Norfolk, this exceptional home equally has just as much of a quirky history as it does location.

Hiding inland between Overstrand and Cromer, you‘re only around two miles to each beach destination. Both towns of Cromer and Overstrand show a beautiful history, along with vibrant high streets and a plethora of interesting and essential shops, independent caf s, pubs and bars.

The name of the property comes from the tale of Sally Bean, and works into part of local legends such as Black Shuck who was believed to be her loyal companion. Sally Bean acted as a smuggler‘s ‘fence‘ in the late 18th century, a time when smuggling was rife in the North Sea due to import duty on gin, brandy known as Old Jacky and tea which meant many ordinary folk couldn‘t afford such luxuries.

Sally became quite popular among the local smugglers, helping secure many a precious cargo. One day, the King‘s Preventative Officers were tipped off, supposedly by the rival Southrepps smuggler gangs, and although a couple of Northrepps smugglers were caught, leader and blacksmith Ted Summers was able to escape and had spent three months hiding in local woods, venturing to the village only occasionally and dressed as a woman.

Sally Bean has an incredibly rich tale, and lived to a ripe old age, telling her tales through clouds of tobacco from her signature little pipe, and accompanied by a barrel of Old Jacky.

Sally Bean‘s Cottage is beautifully presented and is perfectly orientated to encompass the south facing garden and the rolling breath taking field views beyond, perfect to spot any incoming 18th century Kings Revenue Cavalry.

There are three great bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor, where one bedroom showcases a balcony and could become an added reception room, giving that the second floor attic room could make for a great bedroom but equally serves well as a comfortable office space.

Downstairs and we find a gorgeous kitchen dining room which flows into a spacious living room wonderfully, allowing floods of light to sweep through the ground floor.

Aside from the large dining room, which is a versatile space offering a multitude of uses and enjoying double doors out to the stunning garden, we have a shower room , utility room, and not forgetting the bar for any ‘acquired‘ barrels of Old Jacky...

Outside, there is a large single garage with electric and plumbing making it highly amenable to a conversion, as well as off road parking for a small handful of cars. The views from Sally Bean‘s House really speak for themselves as it is absolutely awe inspiring and arguably sits toward a very niche short list of properties with a ten out of ten view. ?

NORTHREPPS The village of Northrepps boasts a strong community with an excellent pub, The Foundry Arms, at its centre.

Glorious open countryside is literally at the doorstep of the barn together with miles and miles of peaceful walking options.

The pretty and traditional coastal villages of Overstrand and Sidestrand are approximately 1 2 miles away and provide the perfect gateway to North Norfolk‘s glorious heritage coastline.

The village of Overstrand stands on the north Norfolk coast, which is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty. There is a strong and long standing community feel within the village with a wide variety of social events, clubs and activities. The village, which is part of what is sometimes called Poppyland, offers a sandy beach, shop, post office, an excellent ‘Gastro‘ public house and hotel.

From here, you can take a bus service or your own short drive to the larger coastal towns of Cromer and Sheringham.

With an elegant pier, Pavilion Theatre and grand Victorian villas, many with panoramic views over the pebble and sand beach, it‘s easy to see why Cromer has perennial appeal to staycationers and permanent residents alike. Banksy recently visited the town on a headline making ‘spraycation‘ which focused the media‘s attention on the east side of the Norfolk coast, and in recent years there has been a regular flow of relocaters from the capital and home counties looking for a life by the sea.

The city of Norwich is just over 20 miles away from Northrepps, where you will find a modern cultural feel with beautiful heritage, dynamic night life, sophisticated shopping and mouth watering restaurants. Chantry Place Shopping Centre offers high end shopping, whilst the Norwich Lanes won the great British high street of the year with its many independent and unique businesses including shops, bars, caf s and restaurants. Norwich offers access to all the major rail links and Norwich International Airport.?
