Downton is a village situated outside Salisbury, on the River Avon. The village offers several shops, a supermarket, pubs, a social club, a library, primary schools and a secondary school. The village also holds an annual village fete, the Downton Cuckoo Fair. Fordingbridge to the south offers local facilities including supermarkets, dentists, doctors' surgery, banks, pubs, schools, butchers, bakeries and restaurants as well as easy access to the New Forest National Park.
