"A magnificent period Grade II listed house with origins dating back to the early 18th century.

Description

Skinner House is an imposing property rebuilt in 1695 with 16th century origins. It provides generously proportioned accommodation, arranged over three floors, and has an unusual wealth of original features and history.

The Trompe l Oeil decoration of the hall, staircase and one bedroom is believed to date from the early 1700s. It was discovered by the current owner and restored by an expert. There are also twelve decorative painted landscape panels that date from the same period and are thought to be the work of an itinerant Dutch artist.

There are three substantial reception rooms with oak and pine panelling and a grand staircase which, unusually, retains its full width leading to the second floor.

On the first floor, are two bathrooms and four bedrooms. The layout could lend itself to create a self contained apartment. The second floor provides two further attic bedrooms together with a bathroom.

The gardens lead to the side and rear, with established trees and shrubs and a gateway leading to the double garage.

Location

The property is situated in the historic centre of Lydd town, close to the church, also known as The Cathedral on the Marsh. Lydd provides a selection of local shops, stores, primary school, airport and golf course. Fresh fish is available at Dungeness.
