EPC rating E VENDOR INTERVIEW This beautiful home is one that has evolved over hundreds of years. The original part of the property was a thatched cottage that dated back to sometime around the late 17th, early 18th century and in the late 19th century it became a local bakery. The thatch was replaced with a tiled roof and a barn was added, then in the 1960s another extension was added to form what is now an extremely spacious and beautifully presented family home.
?Before buying the property we were living on the other side of town,? says Brian, ?but we were desperately in need of more space. We have four children and our parents lived in London, so we wanted somewhere big enough to accommodate us and them when they came to stay. This house provided us with more than enough room, but there was also something about it that grabbed our attention from the very first time we came to view it.?
?The previous owners had been running it as a B&B, so it was in need of quite a bit of TLC to turn it back into a family home,? continues Brian. ?We?ve renovated the older part of the house and did our best to restore and enhance some of the lovely features, and it?s now a really comfortable and characterful family home.?
?The garden is also very nice,? continues Brian, ?and considering we are so close to the centre of town, it?s surprisingly peaceful. We have a circular BBQ area, which is a nice place to entertain, and a raised lawn with a silver birch right in the middle. It?s a lovely space that we have all enjoyed.?
Favourite room: ?The main living room is a really beautiful part of the house,? says Brian. ?It has an inglenook fireplace, solid wood flooring, exposed beams and even a well! The previous owners discovered it and have made it into a stunning feature that is half inside & half outside a can be lit up.? A close second favourite room is the entrance hall with its original panelling, window shutters and wooden floor, walking through the front door is like stepping back in time. ?
Favourite aspect of the grounds or surrounding area: ?Our location has been absolutely ideal,? says Brian. ?The town centre is easily accessible and transport links are very good. We also have a nice park just a few yards away that plays host to a number of festivals throughout the year, and we?re also just a stones throw from miles of glorious countryside.?
Memorable event (if not another favourite room or unique feature): ?At the end of the garden, above the garage, we have a lovely two-bed annex that we rent out on an assured short term tenancy basis.? Says Brian.
What they?ll miss most / why they are leaving: ?It?s just the two of us here now,? says Brian, ?so we feel that all of this space is going to waste. We will be sad to leave, though, and miss the luxury of having such large rooms and the wonderful character of the house.?
