Historical Note
Rowantreehill was designed in 1898 by the architect James Salmon as a private house for himself and his family. It was sold in 1904 and remained in the same family ownership until 2005 when it was bought by the present owners.
James Salmon was one of the more original architects working in Scotland at the end of the 19th century. His work has an identifiable Arts & Crafts Style and sits with the Glasgow style genre of Charles Rennie Macintosh and his circle. The "Wee Troot" as he as affectionately known, developed a highly personal style of expression that relied on artistic craftmanship in sculpture and carvings, which is apparent throughout "Rowantreehill" itself, these carvings are thought to be by Salmon himself.

The village centre offers a range of shops and facilities, which will adequately cater for everyday needs and requirements. The prestigious St. Columba's School is conveniently situated within the village along with Kilmacolm Primary School. Social and recreational facilities are well catered for with golf club, tennis club, bowling club, and restaurants.
