Full description:
The Market Cross stands in a prominent location adjacent to the ancient Guild Hall, is believed to date back to the early 14th century, with significant alterations made in the 18th century and was originally part of the buildings of The Old Manor of Thaxted. The Grade II* listed property is set in grounds of around 0.4 of an acre with its own driveway, parking, a separate garage/studio and an additional outbuilding. The principal reception rooms are well proportioned with many period features, including open fireplaces and panelled interior doors. The kitchen overlooks the side gardens and has a central fireplace with a gas Aga. The attractive garden room has a brick floor and views over the gardens. The extensive cellars are divided into two sections. The imposing reception hallway has a striking staircase which branches right and left to the first floor, which consists of a master bedroom suite with a medieval pitched and timbered ceiling with a crown post, dressing room and en suite bathroom, four further bedrooms, inner landings and a family bathroom.
Outside, double gates lead from Fishmarket Street to the driveway and gardens. There is a detached, timber-framed and weather-boarded outbuilding housing a laundry, shed and potting shed. The former Coach House/stable/garaging is set to the far side of the garden and benefits from permission to convert for residential accommodation (UTT/17/2297/HHF and UTT/17/2298/LB). The gardens extend to approximately 0.4 of an acre and are a particular feature of the property. They are principally laid to lawn with brick and flint boundary walls, many mature trees and shrubs, ponds and a summerhouse with a paved terrace.

Directions:
Leave Saffron Walden on the B184 Thaxted Road passing through Wimbish/Howlett End and continuning into Thaxted itself. Proceed to the town centre and The Market Cross will be found adjacent to The Guild Hall on the right hand side."
