It has two schools in the state-maintained sector, a Church of England primary schools (with a nursery) in Sparrows Green and Uplands, a community secondary school and sixth form with technology college status. In addition, in Mayfield Lane there is an independent Catholic preparatory school, Sacred Heart Wadhurst, Mayfield St Leonards Girls School in Mayfield and grammar schools in Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge. The centre of Wadhurst is 6 miles south of Tunbridge Wells with its wider selection of shopping and leisure facilities. Bewl Water Reservoir is less than 5 miles away and is a truly outstanding venue for outdoor education, activity courses and residential field trips as well as sailing, fishing and water sports. Under an hour from most of London and set on the border of Kent and East Sussex in the High Weald, an Area of outstanding Natural Beauty, Bewl Water is the largest area of inland water in the South East of England and easily the most picturesque. There are also a number of Golf Clubs and Country Parks in the area including nearby Lamberhurst and Dale Hill in Ticehurst and many wonderful National Trust properties including Scotney Castle, Batemans, Sissinghurst and Bodiam Castle.
