"A spacious three bedroom apartment with excellent views to the River Dart and Vire Island all within a short walk of the town amenities. Sitting room, kitchen/dining room, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, balcony. Ideal 2nd/retirement home.
SITUATION 6 Elizabethan House is situated on the banks of the beautiful River Dart. The historic market town of Totnes was geographically built as the highest navigable point upon the River. This market town is often considered to be the 'Gateway to South Hams', an area of exceptional beauty and contrasts with river estuaries, rolling hills and thatched cottages surrounding lovely old towns and including Dartmoor National Park to the north and the loveliest natural beaches and coves to the south. The area enjoys one of the mildest climates in the whole of Britain indeed the name Ham is old English word meaning 'in close or sheltered place'. With spring arriving early, long summers, warm autumns and mild winters. There are 60 miles of spectacular unspoilt coastline and beaches, boating opportunities locally are some of the finest in the country, with perhaps some of the best sailing waters in the world. The rural landscape has hardly changed in centuries and the majestic granite slopes of Dartmoor are a sight to behold. The South Hams is a unique area worthy of its national status as designed 'area of outstanding natural beauty'. Today Totnes is a bustling market town full of interest with a full range of independent shops and recreational facilities. The town is one of Devon's gems full of colour and character that stems from a rich cultural, historical and archeological heritage. Totnes is full of facilities including a hospital, two supermarkets, interesting range of independent shops and galleries together with riverside walks, the Guild Hall, churches and its very own Norman Castle. If travel and commuting are important to you, the Cathedral City of Exeter and the Maritime Port of Plymouth have their own regional airports, Totnes is situated almost equidistant between these two commercial and historical hubs and is within easy commuting distance. Devon has a comprehensive rail network accessed at the mainline railway station in Totnes with regular rapid links to London Paddington. Totnes has good road links to the motorway network with the A38 Devon Expressway approximately 6 miles to the north. DESCRIPTION What sets this property apart from others is its incomparable position above the Dart with views over it towards the town and Vire Island, whose deciduous trees can be a wonderful sight, especially in the autumn. Not quite an island, Vire Island was opened as a pleasure park in Victorian times and renamed when the town was twinned with Vire, in Normandy. Elizabethan House is an imposing five-storey building built in the 1970's. Number 6, on the second floor, is a spacious apartment with its covered balcony, sitting room and two of its three bedrooms taking full advantage of the splendid views. The property includes a single garage and is within a five-minute walk across the bridge of the town centre. The property itself offers spacious three bedroom accommodation and comes with a private garage. The property does require some updating and modernisation. The position is simply breathtaking making this probably one of the best apartments in Totnes.
