INTRODUCTION Kerswell House is a striking Grade II Listed building dating from the 1840s. Originally the estate consisted of the principal house, coach house and a lodge. In the 1960s the estate was divided including the principal house which now forms two attached properties. The Listed Buildings notes state that author, poet and dramatist Eden Philpotts (1862-1960) lived there for many years. It is said his friend Agatha Christie, who was an admirer of his work, was a regular visitor to his home. This substantial property is home to some wonderful period features which include arched sash windows, detailed decorative high ceilings, a wide turning staircase and feature fireplaces. Ideal as a family home, the property enjoys a wonderful level garden that is mostly laid to lawn. The spacious sitting room again enjoys a garden aspect through a substantial bay sash window, a feature fireplace with an inset wood burner and is finished with parquet flooring. The dining room/snug continues the fashion with a high ceiling, dual aspect and a feature fireplace. A storage room houses the boiler with a metal plated door opening to a shelved safe. A lobby area then leads through to a utility room that provides storage units and space for white goods.
