"Oak Barn offers stunning versatile living with high vaulted ceilings and exposed timbers throughout. The bright and airy living room boasts a beautiful exposed brick fireplace, whilst the open plan kitchen dining room offers a modern and spacious living area with patio doors leading onto a large patio area ideal for al fresco dining. The dining room offers versatile options as it could also be a snug, study or even a sixth bedroom. A large master suite with dressing room and en suite is spacious and modern, and the four further bedrooms share two bathrooms.
The nearby town of Royston offers excellent amenities and rail station which offers fast trains into London Kings Cross in around 45 minutes. Cambridge City Centre is also nearby, with easy access to the M11 and A14.
?I was looking for a barn to convert and when I found this one, I was immediately attracted by the location and the potential to create a lovely, characterful home,? says the vendor.
?Originally used as an agricultural building, in 2001 I set about the huge task of converting the barn into a five-bedroom family home, which is set in a small development of three properties. With three reception rooms and three bathrooms, the layout has worked very well for us. I especially like the space that the house provides, as it gives us the freedom to do our own thing and not get in each other?s way, but we can all congregate back together at the end of the day.?
?There are lots of lovely walks just on our doorstep and there are plenty of local pubs in the surrounding villages that do some great food, and a combination of the two activities has resulted in some enjoyable days out! We enjoy going to Cambridge which is just a short drive away, and the Thriplow Daffodil Weekend in March is one of the fundraising highlights of the year where the community pulls together to ensure the success of the event. Visitors enjoy the daffodil displays and open gardens and there are plenty of attractions and refreshments, including homemade cakes.?
?Outside, the garden is very quiet and provides us with ample opportunity to enjoy lazy days relaxing in the sun, and BBQs are often on the agenda! We are treated to some spectacular air displays when the old planes are flying overhead at nearby Duxford airfield, and that is always a treat to see.?
?The kitchen and lounge are my favourite rooms as they are full of character with vaulted ceilings and exposed beams, and they are great spaces to spend time in. The master bedroom, en suite and dressing room are a particular winner with my wife.?
?We enjoy easy access to the major road and rail network which has been essential for me as I work in London. Stansted Airport is only about 30 minutes away too.?
?The barn lends itself perfectly to entertaining and we?ve enjoyed a number of celebrations including my 40th birthday (sadly over a decade ago now)! It is particularly lovely at Christmas when we?ve hosted family get-togethers.?
?Oak Barn was the first barn I converted and was then my family home, so I will miss the memories. The children have moved out and we are taking the opportunity to downsize, as we don?t need so much space and the barn is best when filled with a family.?
