LOCAL INFORMATION
Crescent Road is located in the charming South Park Conservation Area of Reading. It is rumoured that Mr Huntley of Huntley & Palmers biscuit built the house in 1856 and the property was used as a Scattered Home in 1911to provide safe harbour for children during the war. Local amenities include specialist shops and cafes and opposite Bay Tree House is Reading University Technical Campus and the new Maiden Erlegh school which opened in September 2015. The area is well served with schools including Kendrick, Abbey and Reading School. Central Reading is a desirable area for commuters and families alike with fast non-stop services to London, Paddington (from 28 minutes) with Crossrail allowing direct access to the City, Canary Wharf, the West End and Heathrow Airport from 2018. There is easy access to Junctions 11& 12 of the M4 and Heathrow Airport is within 30 miles. The town is an intriguing mix of old and new, with a fine Town Hall, the Abbey ruins and Forbury Gardens next to the newly developed railway station and Oracle shopping centre offering numerous bars, restaurants and the latest shops. Reading is set between the River Thames and River Kennet which meanders through the centre. From the ground floor, an original staircase leads to the first floor with two light and spacious bedrooms each with large windows, built-in wardrobes and en-suite bathrooms. On the second floor there are three further bedrooms and a shower room. There are some fine views from the top floor of the house.
