SITUATION
Totnes is an ancient market town and river port on the River Dart, set in the South Hams area of South Devon renowned for its outstanding natural beauty. The busy, narrow streets, dominated by castle and church tower are full of architectural and historic interest, while the green horizon is always visible just beyond the houses. Totnes is a most sought after location, with Dartmoor National Park, wonderful beaches and coastline on it's doorstep. Totnes was nominated one of the worlds top ten funky towns in British Airways Highlife magazine and the combination of its own original character history with its modern concepts eg Transition Town, result in a vibrant, friendly community. The town offers an excellent range of amenities, including many independent shops, restaurants, hospital, well regarded primary and secondary schools along with a wide choice of recreational and cultural facilities. The mainline railway station, again within walking distance, is on the direct London Paddington line, with direct routes to the North and Scotland via Bristol. The south Devon steam railway has its own platform behind the mainline. The A38 Devon Expressway, about 5 miles from the town centre and midway between Exeter and Plymouth, provides good links and Exeter International Airport is less than an hour away.
