The property was built by the current owners in 1964, and has been a much loved family home ever since.

?Before we purchased the land on which Horley Gardens is situated, my wife, Joan, and I were living in Leeds,? says Roy, ?but as Joan comes from Banbury, when we decided it was time for a change we decided to head back to this lovely part of the country. At that time this property consisted of a few rundown old cottages and a rather dilapidated pub, but it offered us the ideal spot on which to build our new home.?

?We designed the layout of the house ourselves with the aim of creating a home that would work well for us as a family,? continues Roy, ?and I have to say it?s been a joy to live in for the past fifty-two years. Since the house was built we?ve made a few improvements over the years, but we both feel that it still has so much potential to be enhanced further.?

This lovely home is set well back from the road and sits on around an acre of grounds. ?We?ve created a lovely patio area that can be accessed via sliding doors from the dining room,? says Roy, ?and then the rest of the land is mainly laid to lawn with an assortment of fruit trees here and there. As the garden backs onto farmland, we have the most glorious views and it?s also extremely peaceful.?

The main living space consists of a wonderfully contemporary feeling open-plan kitchen, dining and living area. It is a superb space for everyday family life, and the free flow also makes it wonderfully conducive to entertaining.
?The village is a lovely place to live,? says Roy. ?It has a nice pub, an active cricket club and we?re regularly visited by a mobile butcher and a mobile fishmonger. It also has a wonderful feeling of community and there?s always something to get involved in, should one so desire.?

?The dining room opens straight out onto the terrace where we have a small table and chairs,? says Roy. ?It?s a nice place to sit out and eat in the summer or simply just relax and enjoy our beautiful surroundings.?
?This house has been a lovely home for the past fifty-two years,? say Roy, ?and when the time comes to leave we?ll miss it, the village and the sheer peace and quiet of our lovely setting.? "
