" **NO CHAIN** Lower Broadheath is a thriving village 3 miles from Worcester, and 9 miles from the beauty of the Malvern Hills. There have been settlements in the area ever since the Iron Age but the bulk of the housing was not built until after the Second World War. November 5th 1903 saw the laying of the foundation stone of the new church. The procession consisted of the Broadheath and Hallow Choirs, local clergy, headed by the Hallow Banner, the rural Dean (Canon Carr), the Archdeacon of Worcester and the Bishop of Worcester. Mrs C Wheeley-Lee, to whom a silver trowel was presented by Mr Harold Godfrey on behalf of the builders, laid the foundation stone. The Old Vicarage, built at the same time, was formally handed over to the church on Coronation Day in 1911 by Mrs Wheeley-Lee. The church now, besides the normal services, houses "The Hub" an area within the Church where there is an opportunity to chat over a cup of tea a number of times a week, ideal for newcomers to the village. On the other side of the village is the cottage where Sir Edward Elgar was born, now a museum, with its visitor centre which runs a programme of special events during the year. The village also boasts of 3 pubs, a village shop and post office, two boules courts, a camping site, fishing lakes, and opposite our Hall is the sought after Village Primary School. The Old Vicarage was built in 1910 to house the vicar to the Church. A period Edwardian property, boasting many original features including fireplaces, bespoke wooden winding stair case leading to a spacious gallery landing with access to balcony overlooking the front garden, sash windows with header arches, upper floor cambered arches and leaded glass diamond shaped windows. The gravelled drive with shrub borders and large lawn leads up to the original building with a flagstone style paved area and step leading to an imposing doorway with arched fanlight, leading to an impressive entrance hall. Although the house dates back to the 1900's, it has been tastefully improved to modern standards making the most of the original woodwork, brickwork and joists. This makes an impact from the moment you enter the property?s reception hall, featuring a bespoke winding wooden staircase and original Edwardian arched windows, fully carpeted, and coving throughout. The dining room with dual aspect to front and side, a large bay window to side aspect, and arched sash windows in full height bay to front has an original Edwardian fire surround with contrasting, modern granite hearth with gas, coal effect fire inset.
