LOCAL INFORMATION
The villages of Goring and Streatley, on opposite sides of the river, are within an area of outstanding natural beauty and offer many amenities as a residential, tourist and recreational centre. The Goring Gap is an interesting geological feature that allows the river Thames to break through the hills and make its way to the sea east of London. The river runs from North to South dividing the Berkshire Downs from the Chilterns. In addition to attractive riverside scenery, the Goring Gap is convenient for many places of interest, including Oxford and the Cotswolds and London is less than an hour away by train. The Goring Gap is also at the junction of the Ridgeway and Thames long-distance Paths and so is popular with walkers. Goring, with a resident population of 3500, is served by a range of excellent shops, hotels, restaurants, pubs and other services.
