Property Description
This stunning family home is set on a highly sought after no
through road in Iffley village conservation area. Superb living
space over three floors.
Property Details
Description:
A superb family house with charming gardens in this conservation
village. Completed in 1990 and set well back from the road with a
delightful mature garden to the rear, the house offers excellent
family accommodation over three floors with an emphasis on space
and light.
Iffley village offers an unusual combination of both urban and
rural delights. Oxford city centre can easily be reached either by
regular buses from Iffley Turn or by bicycle or on foot along the
river towpath that enters the city at Folly Bridge. The ring road
is several minutes drive away and from there it is only a short
distance to the M40 and other major routes.
Shopping is available either within the village at the excellent
community run village shop with thrice weekly fresh bread delivery,
organic local meat and a basic post office facility, or at either
of the two major supermarkets n++ Sainsburyn++ s at Heyford Hill or
Tescon++ s at the Cowley Roundabout. The Coop at Rose Hill n++ a
short walk away n++ is currently being enlarged and updated. The
Cowley Centre at Templarsn++ Square contains many useful outlets
including B & Q, Asda Living, Matalan, TKMaxx, Halfords and there
is ample free parking on site. Further afield, the Cowley Road
offers the most eclectic range of shops in the city.
There is an excellent doctorsn++ surgery n++ The Donnington Health
Centre n++ on Henley Avenue with its own pharmacy and a wide range
of specialist clinics. Temple Cowley library has withstood the
recent cuts and offers a good range of books, videos and CDn++ s.
Sports centres can be found both at Temple Cowley and at the David
Lloyd Centre five minutes drive from the village.
Iffley has its own hotel n++ The Hawkwell House n++ which is set
in attractive large grounds and this has proved to be extremely
useful as a base for visiting overseas visitors while we have lived
in the village. It also has two pubs that serve food:
The Tree and The Prince of Wales and the very popular if slightly
eccentric Isis Farmhouse on the river just past Iffley lock is now
open for business once more with a small range of home cooked food
and delicious cakes and also hosts more unusual music events in its
lovely gardens. The highly rated Magdalen Arms is about a ten
minute walk away from the village towards town and makes an
excellent destination either for a coffee and cake or snack lunch
or full meal. It is next door to the recently refurbished Pegasus
Theatre n++ the hub of youth drama and dance in Oxford n++ and a
great place for teenagers to get involved and enjoy themselves.
The village itself offers many societies for meeting people and
learning new things. The beautiful Norman Church featured in
Pevsnern++ s Buildings of England is extremely active. There is
also the Friends of Iffley Village, The Iffley Music Society, The
Iffley Historical Society and several book groups. Montessori run
an international nursery school in the village hall and the top
rated Magdalen College School n++ boys throughout and girls in the
sixth form n++ is a short bike ride away down the Iffley Road.
Wildlife is an attractive feature of living in Iffley too. Our
garden is visited regularly by muntjac deer, squirrels, foxes,
hedgehog and a myriad of birds including jays and green woodpeckers
and the local red kite often circle overhead. The whole area is
remarkably peaceful and more like living in the countryside than
only a stonen++ s throw from the centre of Oxford.
