New Buckenham is known among historians as a medieval planned town whose layout and scale remain largely unaltered. Burrage House is one of the most historically interesting homes in the village and named after the merchant John Burrage, its owner in 1599. In 2004, it was one of 11 houses selected by the Norfolk Historic Buildings Group and the dendrochronology laboratory at the University of Sheffield for historical recording, original frame reconstruction drawings and tree ring dating analysis. Its sympathetic and high quality renovation has ensured not only the preservation of many original features but the provision of modern, comfortable, low maintenance living Located in an attractive village with the houses set around the central green. It has a good community spirit and retains its services including a butchers, shop with post office, public houses and other small businesses. The village is well located for access to Attleborough and Wymondham, 5 and 7 miles respectively, both of which are market towns with rail stations on the Norwich to Cambridge line. For access to London there is a mainline station at Diss, within 8 miles, with a journey time to London Liverpool Street of around 90 minutes.
