The property is situated on the northern edge of Bruton which is a vibrant Somerset town nestling in the foothills of the Brue Valley surrounded by unspoilt countryside and is well renowned for its schools, restaurants and artistic community. The surrounding countryside offers a wide variety of pursuits including walking, horse riding, fishing and hunting. Many footpaths weave their way through Bruton and the surrounding countryside, including the Leyland Trail and Macmillan Way, and many walkers use Bruton as a centre. The town has retained a charming character from pre-Domesday to the present and is steeped in history. The river Brue flows through the middle over which is the medieval Packhorse bridge. The Hauser & Wirth art gallery (due to open in mid 2014) is situated towards the edge of the town and will have new innovative exhibitions of contemporary art and education programmes. Bruton has a range of facilities including supermarkets, post office, health centre, dentist, library, inns, churches, takeaways and a railway halt. The town has several award-winning restaurants and hostelries and good bed and breakfast facilities. There are five schools in Bruton: King's School, founded in 1519, Bruton School for Girls, Sexey's School, a Primary School and the Meadow School for Steiner Education. More facilities are available in the nearby towns of Wincanton, Castle Cary and Frome. Bath and Bristol are approximately one hour by road, likewise the South Coast. The historic market town of Castle Cary approximately six miles away has a mainline Railway Station (London Paddington) or Templecombe to Waterloo; Road access to the A303/M3 is closeby and provides good links to London, the Home Counties and the South Coast.
