The Poulett family's connections with Hinton and its estate started with Sir William Poulett in 1429. His great grandson, Sir Amyas Poulett was keeper of Mary Queen of Scots. Sir John Poulett was Baron Poulett of Hinton St George. The Poulett family's power and wealth was responsible for the development of the village where they built the school and houses to serve the estate. In the late sixties the village was sold and the community spirit of the day still remains, with a community run shop, post office, school and many local activities.

Follow the private road into the visitor parking area, and walk through the archway into the quadrangle.
