"A lovely Victorian home, probably the oldest in Lower Shiplake and formerly the childhood home of George Orwell. A large detached house with versatile ground floor accommodation and three bedroom suites, one with balconies, solid oak floors throughout and leaded light windows. Secure and gated grounds with enclosed and manageable gardens. Planning Permission has been granted to extend at the rear but has now lapsed.
Ground Floor Accommodation
An oak front door leads into a beautiful paneled hall with stone floors, guest cloakroom to one side and through to a long inner hall with picture window to the front and oak flooring. The reception space was originally two rooms, now a delightful reception room with front bay and dual aspect. The drawing room end has a beautiful fireplace with an antique white marble surround and period architrave. Beautiful wood block flooring with inlay detail is laid though out the ground floor reception rooms. The family room is presently used as a Study and Library, a lovely room with french doors leading to the garden. The open plan family kitchen has extensive fitted units and a stone floor, ample space for dining and doors leading out to the garden.
