"This handsome four bedroom, three storey Victorian house lies on a residential street between Lower Clapton and Homerton, well placed for Chatsworth Road, Well Street, Hackney Wick and Hackney Marshes. A clever renovation has rationalised its internal plan, creating a series of bright living and sleeping spaces in the process. A landscaped garden extends at the rear; west facing, it is a delightful spot to watch the setting sun and has raised planters with olive trees, antarctic ferns and fragrant lavender.

The Tour

Trehurst Street is a peaceful road lined with mature trees and Victorian terraces. This house sits almost halfway down and is distinctive with its grey painted stucco dressings. A wall also grey painted, and with an integrated flower bed atop traces around the front neat garden. In the spring, a Japanese wisteria along the frontage erupts into blossom, its tendrils a pastel hued contrast to the house s darker profile. Entry is via a smart black painted front door conveniently set within a recessed porch.

A neat entrance space is slightly delineated from the open plan kitchen and living room beyond, which basks in the light drawn in through a tall trio of bay set windows. White walls amplify the bright feel and act as a light counterpoint to the refined black painted floorboards underfoot here and across the ground floor. The room s double height ceilings have been taken full advantage of in the alcoves, where tall bookshelves have been added.

Arranged to remain open to the rest of the room, the kitchen has high and low level white cupboards with circular handles. Appliances are integrated within and are from Miele. Opposite, a kitchen island with a cantilevered overhang doubles as an informal dining spot and as additional preparation space. There is a glazed door on one side that provides easy garden access, and the area beneath the stairs opposite has been used to carve out additional storage.

Beyond lies a dining room with plenty of space for a large table and eight chairs. A second bay window on one side draws in light, adding to that which enters from the front and through an opening to the rear. Here, a brilliantly capacious utility room has direct access to the garden and adjoins a WC.

Wool carpeted stairs ascend to the first floor, where there are two en suite bedrooms at either end of the plan. The generous principal suite is at the front; a door from the landing opens to a circulation space from which its private bathroom and sleeping quarters extend. Full height built in wardrobes line one wall in the latter, while two large windows draw in plenty of light. The room s en suite is immaculate, with marble floors, a bathtub, a separate walk in shower and twin sinks.

Similarly generous, the bedroom at the rear has a soothing garden outlook. On the second floor are a further two bedrooms and a skylight lit shower room. One of the bedrooms is especially well proportioned and has access to expansive eaves storage.

Outdoor Space

Extending at the rear of the house, the garden has been carefully landscaped to create distinct areas. Directly abutting the house is a terrace with space for an outdoor dining set up. Three olive trees lend the area a Mediterranean feel.

Timber beds extend almost fully around the garden s perimeter and are filled with a Japanese acer, fig tree, bay and antarctic fern. A built in bench lies on one side in front of a rear lawned area and next to a shed with a green roof.

The Area

Trehurst Street lies close to Chatsworth Road, which runs north from Homerton to Millfield s Park and Hackney Marshes. It has a number of independent shops, caf s and restaurants, including Leo s, ramen caf Men, specialist suppliers L epicerie 56 and the London Borough of Jam. Well Street is just beyond and is home to Shankeys, an Indian Irish restaurant serving delicious cocktails and food, and Well Street Pizza.

The beautiful expanse of Hackney Marshes are a short walk from the house, while Millfields Park and Victoria Park with its children s play areas and sports facilities are only slightly further afield. Closer to home Daubeney Fields playground lies at the end of the street.
