The Area

The Bank lies in the old part of Barnard Castle between The Market Cross and Thorngate in a convenient location close to the river and Demesnes. It is within a short walk from the centre of the historic market town of Barnard Castle, which provides a broad range of shopping, educational and recreational facilities.

Often referred to as the ?Gateway to Teesdale? there are many renowned beauty spots within a short drive, beyond which can be found the attractions of North Yorkshire, the Lake District, Northumberland and the East Coast. For the commuter the A66, A67 and A1 (M) provide links with the major commercial centres of the North East. Darlington Mainline Railway Station and Durham Tees Valley International Airport offer further communication with the rest of the country.

The Property

38 The Bank is a striking double fronted Grade II Listed property which is steeped in history. The property offers flexible living accommodation over three floors and boasts a wealth of character and original features along with gas central heating throughout.

A part glazed entrance door leads into the living room which is a bright room having two large shop windows to the front. There is a tall Inglenook fireplace with inset multi-fuel stove and fitted alcove storage to either hand. There are exposed beams to the ceiling, wooden stanchion and exposed stonework to one wall. There is a useful cloaks storage area, original stone spiral staircase which leads up to the first floor and opening which leads through to the snug room and cellar.

The snug is a further generous reception room with window looking out to the courtyard and a large stone fireplace. From the snug an additional door leads into the utility/rear hall.

The utility area has fitted storage cupboards and worktops along with space and plumbing for a washing machine and tumble dryer. There is stone flag flooring which continues into the main real hall where there is a door leading out to the rear courtyard, spiral staircase leading up to the kitchen and a door which leads off to the family bathroom.

The bathroom has been renovated in recent years and is fitted with a modern white suite including hand wash basin, WC and a large twin bath with shower over.

The cellar is accessed via a stone spiral staircase and had been completely dry lined in recent years and was formally utilised as a workshop. A door from the cellar leads into an excellent storage cupboard with a narrow staircase to one end which leads up to the street.

The dining kitchen is located on the first floor at the rear of the property and is bright and airy space having vaulted ceilings with exposed beams and trusses and three windows to one side. The kitchen is fitted with a modern range of base and wall mounted storage units, white granite work tops, ceramic sink and tiled splash backs. There is space for a range style cooker as well as integrated appliances including dishwasher, refrigerator and freezer. There is ample space for a family dining table and chairs and an original wooden door which leads out to the terrace.

A further door leads from the kitchen into an inner hall where there is access to the playroom and bedroom 5/study. The inner hall leads to the original stone spiral staircase which leads up the bedroom accommodation and down to the living room.

Located on the first floor and to the front of the property there are two rooms, one of which is utilised as an additional living room with panelling to the wall, an ornate plasterwork ceiling, and a fireplace with traditional cast iron insert. The other first floor rom is currently utilised as a study/home office however both of these rooms would be ideal for use as bedrooms if required.

The spiral staircase continues up to the second floor where there are two bedrooms and shower room/WC. The master bedroom is a generous double room having panelling to the walls, exposed beams to the ceiling and a window which looks onto The Bank as well as access to excellent attic storage space. The second bedroom is a further good sized double room with decorative fireplace.

The shower room is partially tiled and fitted with a corner shower cubicle, WC and hand wash basin.
