The historic town of Christchurch is situated on the shores of its own spectacular natural harbour at the confluence of the rivers Stour and Avon. Close to the magnificent Dorset World Heritage Coast and the tranquil New Forest National Park, Christchurch is only a short drive from Bournemouth and Poole. The area is steeped in history. Founded in the 7th century, the town was originally named Twynham but became known as Christchurch following the construction of the priory in 1094.
