"Arranged over three floors this luxurious penthouse apartment enjoys stunning panoramic sea views with light and spacious accommodation that combines original features with a modern touch. There are two/three bedrooms, one with a balcony and a second with en-suite, one/two reception rooms and the added bonus of a designated parking space. The Story Relaxing on the balcony over a sunrise breakfast and enjoying the breathtaking views of Torquay harbour is what owner Christopher Miller enjoys most about his fabulous home. He bought his three-storey apartment just over three years ago, when the conversion of Sovereign House into 12 luxury apartments had just been completed. The views are simply amazing and can change so dramatically with whatever the weather is doing, said Christopher. Living here is like being at one with the elements. Crow's Nest View For sailor and boat owner Christopher, the apartment's prime location also has the added advantage of enabling him to keep an eye on his catamaran which is moored in the harbour. The location was what first attracted me to the property, he said. I have my own boat and being able to pick out its masts from among all the other boats out there was very appealing. He added: I was the first buyer and consequently had a choice of which apartment to buy. Elegant Home With its grand Regency fa?ade, Sovereign House was built in 1810 as a substantial home for the gentry. I understand from locals that it was regarded as the grandest property in Torquay, he said. Now the palatial exterior has been combined with all the elegance of contemporary living to provide state-of-the art apartments. What I really liked about my apartment was the fact that it had been finished to a very high specification, he added. All of the rooms have been painted in soft neutral tones and the bespoke kitchen was installed by Treyone, of Tavistock. It features Porcelanosa tiling, granite work tops and high specification appliances. Leisure and Pleasure The beautiful open plan drawing room and dining room also overlooks the harbour and is where Christopher likes to spend his time at home. If I am sitting at the table working, I can just glance up and look out to sea. It is just so relaxing to be here, he said. The property is south facing and provides a grandstand view for all manner of events that occur in the busy harbour town, including the annual firework display, the twinkling lights of Torquay town at night and the Red Arrows who annually fly past the town for their famous air show. We have the best seats in the house, he added. The Fun Factor With the main living area on the middle floor of the apartment, the master bedroom, second bedroom and bathroom are located on the top floor while downstairs is a third bedroom. My partner and I have seven children between us and five grandchildren so we often have visitors. We have found the apartment a great place to welcome our family, particularly the children who love using the downstairs bedroom as their den, he said. The long hallway is also regularly turned into a skittle alley for the youngsters. We have really enjoyed entertaining here, he added. Fresh Waters Although the property is situated in the heart of Torquay it is secluded enough for it to enjoy peace and quiet. You really wouldn't know you were living in a bustling seaside town, said Christopher. But there are some fantastic restaurants nearby and all within easy walking distance. With ambitions to sail the seas both at home and abroad, however, he now feels it is time to move on. He explained: I want to explore more of the south west coast and eventually the Mediterranean and the Caribbean with my boat so I am seeking out fresh waters for sailing and as a consequence a new base. Setting the Scene Sovereign House overlooks Torquay's harbour and marina, where the owner has moored his own boat. It really is a top quality marina and with its close proximity to my home I can be out sailing in no time at all, he said. Likewise, stunning beaches are within easy reach at Babbacombe and for some bracing sea-air walking, the coastal path is easily accessible too. As a tourist destination, the town has a wealth of amenities and facilities. We are spoilt for choice for good restaurants, he said. Torquay's Living Coast with its penguin enclosures is always popular with the grandchildren, while the shopping centre is only a few minutes walk away too. AMAZING The views are simply amazing and can change so dramatically with whatever the weather is doing. SAILING I have my own boat and being able to pick out its masts from among all the other boats out there was very appealing. PEACEFUL You really wouldn't know you were living in a bustling seaside town. LUXURY What I really liked about my apartment was the fact that it had been finished to a very high specification. haart is the seller's agent for this property.
